ABOUT
Hassan Kilani is an Emmy Award–winning Director of Photography and filmmaker based in Qatar.
Working across commercial and documentary filmmaking, Kilani has built a reputation for images that combine visual restraint with emotional clarity, allowing the story and its characters to guide the frame.
His work has brought him behind the lens for prominent regional and international networks and brands, including The New York Times, FIFA, Qatar Airways, Qatar Museums, Qatar Tourism, Vodafone, and GMC. Over the past decade, he has filmed across a wide spectrum of subjects—from arts and culture and branded storytelling to natural and human history projects—each one asking for its own distinct visual language.
Kilani began his career at the Doha Film Institute, where he learned the business of cinema and film festivals, shaping his understanding of the medium. Drawn from the outset to the practical and creative demands of production, he soon moved into the field, refining his craft as a multidisciplinary filmmaker before transitioning into a sought-after freelance Director of Photography. His work today is defined by a deliberate visual sensibility that favors simplicity, texture, and emotional precision.
Having worked professionally across every stage of production—from development and field production to post-production—Kilani approaches filmmaking with a holistic understanding of the process. Comfortable navigating both large-scale productions and agile run-and-gun environments, he maintains a clear focus on how each image ultimately lives within the final edit, ensuring that every creative decision remains in service of the story.
